  • Sparkle Dog Care, a pet grooming franchise, plans to open 20 locations in Louisville and Indiana over the next seven years.
  • Franchise developers Jordan Van Royen and Derek Harper aim to standardize the dog grooming experience with consistent pricing and services.
  • The company is actively seeking franchisees before securing real estate locations.
  • Each franchise location will employ eight to ten people and offer grooming training opportunities.

A new pet grooming franchise hopes to bring 20 locations to Louisville and Indiana over the next seven years as part of a development agreement.

Sparkle Dog Care has three existing locations in Arizona with development licenses issued for over 300 locations across the country. Indiana franchise developers Jordan Van Royen and Derek Harper are behind the local expansion, which was announced in mid-June.

Franchisees Van Royen and Harper operate several franchises for The Joint Chiropractic in multiple states, including locations in Indiana. Van Royen said getting involved as a developer for Sparkle Dog Care intrigued him because of its focus on consistency.

“I really saw the dog grooming industry the same as the chiropractic industry,” Van Royen said. “It’s really fragmented. There’s a real lack of consistency. You could go to 10 different groomers in your area and get 10 different prices and 10 different experiences.”

Van Royen said the grooming experience and pricing will be the same across all Sparkle Dog Care locations to make the process more standardized for pet owners.

Locations will first open in Louisville and Indianapolis within a one-or-two-year timeframe, Van Royen said. The brand is currently looking for people interested in franchising before pursuing real estate opportunities.

Each franchise will employ eight to 10 people, with both part-time and full-time positions available. Van Royen said Sparkle Dog Care is unique in that the company provides grooming training opportunities for employees who want to learn.

“There’s definitely vertical career movement for someone who, really, at the end of the day, just likes working with dogs,” Van Royen said.

Brand co-founder and COO Joe Aeppli said in a June 17 news release he was excited about the partnership with Van Royen and Harper.

“Jordan and Derek are exactly the kind of partners we look for,” Aeppli said. “They are experienced, values-driven, and ready to lead from the front. They understand that Sparkle isn’t just filling a gap in the grooming market, we’re building something transformational.”
