Further Foods, a subsidiary of CULT Food Science, has signed an R&D supply agreement with a cultivated meat producer to develop its Noochies! line of pet treats. The company said this agreement brings the company closer to commercializing cultivated meat-based pet food.
The company said the agreement is a step toward making cultivated meat pet food commercially viable. Further Foods aims to overcome cost and supply challenges while expanding globally. Further Foods expects its participation at Global Pet Expo and international growth to drive awareness and adoption of its products.
One of Noochies! cultivated meat suppliers is currently navigating the FDA regulatory process for approval of their cultivated meat ingredients for pet food. If approved, this would allow Noochies! to sell pet food products including those suppliers’ cultivated meat in the U.S. without the need for the company to separately conduct any feeding trials. As a result of discussions with the company’s suppliers, Noochies! has decided to pause its planned feeding trials at this time and rely on its suppliers to secure FDA approval for cultivated meat in pet food products. This will reduce costs and the company anticipates this will result in faster commercialization.
“We are thrilled to be making tangible progress toward the commercial launch of Noochies! cultivated meat pet treats,” said Mitchell Scott, CEO of CULT Food Science. “One of the biggest challenges for us has been to find partners who can supply the required amounts of cultivated meat at a price point that works for our business model. We are confident that we are putting the right partnerships in place to be able to launch cultivated meat in pet treats in the near future. Our presence at the Global Pet Show and our expansion into Asia are key milestones as we work to redefine the pet food industry with sustainable, ethical solutions.”
Asian expansion
Recognizing the rising demand for sustainable pet food in Asia, Noochies! is expanding its distribution network in the region, noted the company. Noochies! has already received orders from a distributor in Southeast Asia and is in active discussions with other potential partners in the region.
Further Foods said it has initiated strategic partnerships to facilitate entry into these new markets, where consumer interest in ethical and alternative pet nutrition is increasing. This expansion underscores CULT’s commitment to making cultivated meat pet treats accessible on a global scale.
