Video: The dams of Bucks County’s rivers and creeks
Several dams can be found throughout the many creeks and rivers that wind through Bucks County. Here’s a look at a few of them:
While Phillies fans are excited to have superstar Bryce Harper back in the lineup from the injured reserve, there’s now another new addition they are waiting to see —his four-legged teammate.
To kick off July, Tugger, a 10-week-old yellow Labrador retriever, will be added to the club’s off-the-field roster.
The pup is named after legendary Phillies reliever Tug McGraw, a U.S. Marine Corps reservist, and is training to be a service dog with the goal of being placed with a veteran with a disability.
“Ya gotta believe young Tugger’s going to be a hero for a veteran with an invisible wound of war,” country music star Tim McGraw, son of the late Phillies reliever, said in a statement from the league.
“My father loved the Phillies and took immense pride in his service with the United States Marine Corps. The thought that this little pup will one day contribute to enhancing the quality of life for a veteran is truly remarkable. We can never do enough to honor our veterans, and I am certain my father would have felt deeply honored to have Tugger named in his memory.”
Tugger’s training is made possible by a partnership between Team Foster, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that supports injured and disabled veterans through accredited, lifesaving service dogs and Warrior Canine Connection, a nonprofit that breeds, trains and places highly skilled service dogs with service members and veterans with both visible and invisible wounds.
Over the next two years, Tugger will undergo special service training where he will work with dozens of veterans receiving treatment for physical and psychological wounds. Once complete, Tugger will be able to help veterans in a wide variety of ways from daily activities to disrupting nightmares or detecting anxiety attacks.
Tugger is the second service dog sponsored by the Phillies after Major, who was recently placed with a veteran. The team’s service dog initiative is funded through a grant from Phillies Charities, Inc.
