PawCo advances AI-driven dog food development

PawCo Foods has announced a new partnership with the Harvard Data Analytics Group (HDAG) to further develop its artificial intelligence (AI) platform for canine nutrition. The collaboration is expected to enhance PawCo’s data-driven approach to dog food formulation and speed up innovation in the premium pet food sector.

HDAG, a non-profit student organization at Harvard University, specializes in applying advanced data analytics to support business and research challenges. In working with PawCo, the group will contribute technical expertise to analyze nutritional data at scale, drawing insights from a wide range of scientific sources.

PawCo’s AI platform has already enabled the company to create 11 different dog food formulations in just two years — a timeline that CEO Dr. Mahsa Vazin said typically takes traditional pet food manufacturers up to a decade.

“PawCo’s vision is to create a healthier and happier generation of dogs through better food, made more accessible by lower costs,” said Vazin. “We are beyond excited to work with the brilliant minds at Harvard to make that possible. Their passion for innovation and data science perfectly complements our mission to deliver the healthiest, most sustainable meals to dogs everywhere—more efficiently and intelligently than ever before.”

According to PawCo, the partnership will focus on refining the AI platform’s capabilities across several areas, including ingredient selection, nutritional modeling, and new product development. These upgrades are intended to enable faster, more precise formulation of nutritionally complete and scientifically validated pet food products.

“Our core mission is leveraging AI and data to disrupt different industries, so it is incredibly exciting to partner with companies like PawCo who want to leverage data and AI technology to make the world a better place for our lovely companions,” said Carlos Luz, CEO of HDAG. “We’re looking forward to contributing to the advancement of their AI platform and helping drive the future of smarter, more sustainable dog nutrition.”

PawCo’s R&D process combines AI with input from board-certified animal nutritionists and food scientists. The company uses its proprietary system to optimize recipes for factors such as digestibility, ingredient quality, and compliance with AAFCO nutritional standards.

The goal, Vazin said, is to bridge cutting-edge technology with practical nutrition outcomes that meet evolving consumer expectations and support long-term pet health.
