Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) is bringing back the Care on the Go community event on December 21st offering free services to help keep pets safe, healthy and in their homes.
“After having such a large turnout at our previous Care on the Go events, it’s clear that these services are of great value to the community and make a huge impact in giving so many Maricopa County pets the best shot for a healthy life,” said Debbie McKnight, director of MCACC.
MCACC held three Care on the Go events earlier this year, one in January and two in March, which resulted in more than 750 pets receiving vaccination, microchipping and licensing services. MCACC is proud to continue offering these free services at this upcoming event.
“We’re so excited that it’s that time of the year again where the weather will permit us to hold our highly demanded and anticipated Care on the Go event,” said Kim Powell, Communications Supervisor. “We’ve been able to provide more than 2,400 services to valley pets at these events so far. It’s clear there is a huge need for these services by the community, and we are so happy to continue making a difference in the lives of so many pets here in Maricopa County!”
Parvovirus and distemper are two of the most prevalent deadly diseases that affect dogs. However, these diseases are preventable with a simple vaccine. An estimated 30% of pet parents do not take their pet to a veterinarian annually for preventative care. To ensure the health and wellness of our beloved pets and to address this critical need, MCACC is partnering with #LovePup Foundation and Petco Love to provide free services such as vaccines, microchips, and licensing to the community.
“It is heartbreaking when any pet suffers or dies from a disease that could have been prevented. It is further exacerbated when unvaccinated pets come into busy shelter kennels, where these deadly diseases can spread quickly, resulting in multiple deaths, skyrocketing expenses, and hindering saving pet lives,” said Susanne Kogut, Petco Love President. “By creating greater awareness and making this crucial preventative care more accessible to pets not currently receiving these lifesaving vaccines, we can prevent the dangerous spread of disease.”
On December 21, from 7:30am-11:30am, MCACC will be offering Rabies vaccines and licensing to dog owners at no cost. Vaccines distributed through the Petco Love initiative will be DA2PP, and microchips will be available for dogs who need one thanks to #LovePup Foundation. The no-cost DA2PP vaccines are made possible through Petco Love’s national vaccination initiative Vaccinated and Loved, which is providing one million more free pet vaccines for family pets in need to existing animal welfare partners, including Maricopa County Animal Care & Control.
This drive-thru style event is for dogs only; limit two dogs per household. Registration for the event opens up on December 6th. Please register online before December 15. MCACC recommends registering as soon as possible because appointments get booked fast. Residents can also check back using the registration link in case of cancellations.
