Dog lovers and community members came together for a heartwarming Doggy Drive Day at Rietvlei Zoo Farm.

The event aimed to collect much-needed blankets and supplies for animals ahead of the cold months, while also raising awareness of animal welfare.

Organised by Wendy Dickinson of PropertyCloud Real Estate, whose passion for animals shone through as the day saw an incredible turnout from dog owners, families, mountain bikers and walkers.

Attendees enthusiastically donated blankets, dog food, treats, and toys, showing their empathy for animals in need.

“It’s hard out there for everyone, and we need to pull together to bring happiness as best we can to the community,” said Wendy Dickinson. “Animals are part of our world, and they bring us joy. We need to care for and value them.”

The event was a community effort, with Rietvlei Zoo Farm generously sponsoring the venue. Other key sponsors included Dicko Bird Washing Lines, Multinet Home Loans, Open Image, Jennabelles and PropertyCloud Real Estate.

Dicko Bird Washing Lines also held a raffle for one of their wall-mounted stainless steel washing lines, with tickets at R50 each.

All proceeds from the raffle, along with the collected blankets and treats, were handed over to the Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association (LCARA), providing vital support for their work.

Dickinson expressed her gratitude to everyone involved, saying their response was extremely empathetic. She highlighted the joy seen on people’s faces as they made their donations.

In return for their generosity, attendees received treats for their own dogs and professional photos to cherish memories of the day.

This successful Doggy Drive Day is part of a series of events hosted every two months at Rietvlei Zoo Farm, which also include Cancer Awareness and Women’s Day initiatives.

“With such a positive response and many already asking about the next doggy day, it’s clear this event brings significant happiness and community spirit to the area,” said Dickinson. “I feel this is such a worthy cause, bringing the community and their pets together.”
