Today on the show Larry Sprinkle introduced us to today’s Tuesday Tailwagger: James.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a sweet heart and great manners, James may be the perfect match. The 6-year-old black Pit Bull Terrier is currently being fostered through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Services and is ready to meet his forever family.
James, identified by Animal Care & Control as A1230515, weighs about 46 pounds and has been in the care of the shelter system since November 3, 2024. While he isn’t currently housed at the shelter, he is fully available for adoption and thriving in his foster home.
Those who know James describe him as an absolute sweetheart with an easygoing personality. He’s fully potty trained, sleeps through the night and settles nicely into a daily routine. With medium energy, James enjoys playtime but is just as happy relaxing by your side.
He’s also a smart pup who loves to learn. James is treadmill trained, enjoys chasing a ball and is highly motivated by treats, making training sessions fun and rewarding. He already knows commands like “sit” and “wait” and is eager to please.
James truly shines when it comes to affection. Known for his gentle hugs and loving nature, he connects quickly with people and has done exceptionally well on outings, including a recent “daycation” where he was friendly and patient with kids, other dogs and new faces.
While James gets along well with other dogs, especially females… he does best with dogs that match his calm-to-moderate energy level. He recently completed a parallel walk with another male dog and did great. A cat-free home is recommended.
Above all, James is a people pleaser who loves everyone he meets. His foster family says he’s patient, well-mannered and ready to be someone’s loyal best friend.
Even if James isn’t the right fit for your household, Charlotte Animal Care & Control encourages the community to consider adopting, fostering or volunteering to help animals in need.
James has everything going for him, a gentle soul, great manners and so much love to give. All he’s missing is a forever home.
We also learned Matilda is still available, she is last week’s tailwagger.
Matilda is winning hearts one gentle walk at a time. This 3-year-old gray-and-white Pit Bull Terrier is currently being fostered through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Services and is available for adoption now.
Matilda weighs about 50 pounds and has been in the shelter system since Oct. 28, 2025. While she isn’t staying at the shelter either, she’s thriving in foster care and ready to meet her forever family.
Matilda’s foster describes her as the “cutest little piglet,” complete with happy grunts on walks and the softest gray coat you can imagine. She’s easy on the leash, sports an adorable waddle walk and loves to stop and sniff along the way. One of her ears is always standing at attention, as if it’s permanently saying hello.
She’s affectionate, calm and go-with-the-flow, enjoying cuddles, gentle kisses and quality time with her people. Matilda likes treats (and takes them politely), redirects easily when needed and has shown herself to be tolerant, patient and non-reactive to dogs she passes, though slow, proper introductions are always recommended.
Matilda is also a great sport and doesn’t mind being dressed up, making her a fun and loving companion who’s ready to embrace home life. If you’re looking for a laid-back, affectionate dog to be your official “house hippo,” Matilda may be the one.
The shelter is located at:
8315 Byrum Drive
Charlotte, NC 28217
The shelter offers adoption services, volunteer opportunities, and resources for pet owners. Some animals, like those in foster care, may not be on-site, so it’s best to contact the shelter or the foster directly to arrange visits.
