Chasing Tails Dog Training helps dogs and their humans learn together

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) -Chasing Tails Dog Training opened five years ago with a simple mission: helping dogs and their humans understand each other through patience, positivity and clear communication. For owner Rebecca Almgren, that mission began long before the business itself.

Almgren, who started training dogs at a young age, says her work is as much about supporting owners as it is about teaching their pets. “My focus isn’t just on the dogs, it’s also on the human owner,” she said.

“Not every dog trains the same way and not every human owner learns the same way. I hate to see people struggle with their dogs. I love to help owners and their dogs. I like to have fun with my classes.”

Over the years, Almgren has seen how training can change lives. “There’s no better feeling than watching a nervous dog blossom into a confident, happy companion,” she said.

Dogs of all sizes and ages are welcome for training

Chasing Tails works with dogs of all ages, sizes and backgrounds — from brand‑new puppies to older dogs and rescues with difficult pasts. Almgren has trained everything from 5‑pound Chihuahuas to dogs weighing more than 180 pounds.

One of the most popular offerings is the six‑week group class series, designed to address common behavior concerns while strengthening communication between dogs and their owners.

Each weekly session lasts about an hour and includes homework and written handouts to reinforce learning at home. Class sizes remain small — typically one to four dogs — to ensure individualized attention.

The six‑week curriculum includes foundational commands, impulse control, grooming and handling education, leash skills, recall and troubleshooting specific concerns. Puppy classes (for dogs 8 weeks to 6 months old) and adult basic classes (for dogs 6 months and older) are offered separately, with new sessions added regularly throughout the month. All training uses positive‑reinforcement, relationship‑focused methods.

At the end of each six‑week course, dogs participate in a graduation ceremony complete with photos and a diploma for their owners.

Private sessions offered

For families seeking more personalized support, Almgren also offers private training sessions. “My private training sessions are where I feel like I truly get to shine and make the biggest individual impact with families and their dogs,” she said.

Webinars and workshops

Chasing Tails additionally hosts monthly webinars and workshops focused on understanding canine behavior. Webinars are held on the second Sunday of each month, and workshops take place on the fourth Sunday. Both are designed to help owners better understand the “why” behind their dog’s actions.

Chasing Tails Dog Training operates out of Bettendorf and serves clients throughout the Quad Cities.
